Product information "GLEISTEIN MegaTwin Dyneema - 8mm / Breaking load 2800daN - black"
GLEISTEIN MegaTwin Dyneema performance rope
GLEISTEIN MegaTwin Dyneema is a versatile high-performance rope for halyards and sheets on sailing yachts up to approximately 80 feet. The construction combines a Dyneema SK78 core with a polyester intermediate jacket and a durable polyester outer cover. This multi-layer design combines high structural strength with controllable handling on winches, turning blocks and clutches. MegaTwin Dyneema is typically used as a mainsail halyard, genoa halyard, spinnaker halyard, mainsheet, genoa sheet or universal trimming line, covering a wide range of the running rigging on modern sailing yachts. The load-bearing core is made of Dyneema SK78. This high-modulus polyethylene fibre offers very high strength with minimal stretch, keeping sail trim settings stable even under load. The additional polyester intermediate jacket stabilises the core structure, distributes loads evenly and protects the load-bearing fibres from point loading. The outer polyester cover provides abrasion resistance, controlled running over deck fittings and secure grip in clutches.
The combination of Dyneema core and polyester cover enables a balanced trade-off between performance and ease of handling. Pure Dyneema braids offer very high strength but can be more difficult to control in clutches or on winches. The structured cover of MegaTwin Dyneema improves grip and reduces the risk of slippage in stoppers, while stretch remains very low, allowing precise trim adjustments.
The twin-braid construction ensures stable geometric properties along the entire length, keeping the diameter consistent and maintaining the rope's shape even during frequent load cycles. This is particularly relevant for halyards running over multiple turning points and regularly under high tension. MegaTwin Dyneema can also be reliably spliced, making it suitable for custom terminations on board or in the workshop.
The robust construction keeps the rope dimensionally stable even at tight bend radii. When running over blocks or winches, high local loads and friction occur. The abrasion-resistant cover protects the Dyneema core from mechanical wear and extends the service life of the rope, while flexibility is maintained for controlled handling during manoeuvres.
The wide range of diameters allows adaptation to different boat types and load ranges. Smaller diameters are often used as trim or control lines, while larger sizes are used for halyards or loaded sheets. MegaTwin Dyneema thus covers applications from competitive racing to performance-oriented cruising.
In practical use, the rope is frequently customised. Typical configurations include cut metre ware, whippings to secure the ends, or spliced eyes for attachment points. Stripped eye splices or variants with an integrated friction ring are also used when weight reduction or optimised friction points are required. These options allow the rope to be tailored to its specific function in the rig.
