Dyneema & HMPE Rope
Dyneema® - The World’s Strongest Fiber™
Dyneema® is regarded as the future of wire ropes, offering an impressive breaking strength 15 times stronger than steel. It features exceptionally high tensile strength at minimal weight. Additionally, Dyneema provides excellent abrasion resistance, UV stability, and very low elongation. Another advantage is its good splicability, which is professionally implemented in our in-house splicing workshop by our experts. Click here to view the selection of splices. Note that Dyneema should always be spliced rather than knotted, as a knot can reduce its breaking strength by 50-75%.
Despite its many advantages, there are some properties to consider for specific applications. These include a low melting point, reduced knot strength, and a phenomenon known as creep. Creep refers to the irreversible elongation that can occur under prolonged load over extended periods when Dyneema is subjected to more than 20% of its breaking strength. However, in most applications, such as sailing, this rarely poses an issue, as Dyneema is typically not exposed to extreme loads for long durations.
The Different Types of Dyneema®:
- Dyneema® SK75 → The predecessor of Dyneema® SK78, featuring lower breaking strength and relatively high creep. Our recommendation: Dyneema Plus Rope
- Dyneema® SK78 → The most widely used Dyneema in water sports today, offering very high breaking strength with relatively low creep. Primarily used for halyards, sheets, and backstays. Our recommendation: D-Pro Black Vision Dyneema
- Dyneema® SK99 → For applications where maximum breaking strength or weight savings are the highest priority, SK99 is the best choice, such as on high-end racing yachts: Liros V-Plus Vectran XTR
Applications:
Dyneema has a wide range of applications in various industries due to its high tensile strength, light weight, and durability. In sailing, it is used for rigging. Thanks to its low elongation under load, Dyneema ropes maintain stable sail tension, enhancing efficiency and reducing the need for constant trimming. In the sports and consumer goods sector, it is used for kitesurfing and paragliding lines, sailing lines, tents, and outdoor equipment.
