Product information "Nicopress® Sleeves 0.8-1.0mm / NP-27-1-B"
Original Nicopress® Oval Sleeves and Compression Sleeves – Made in USA. Established in 1901, the Nicopress® system is one of the most established solutions for professional wire rope terminations and is used worldwide in demanding technical applications.
The characteristic Nicopress® Oval Sleeves with their distinctive hourglass-shaped profile are manufactured from tinned copper. Nicopress® compression sleeves are specifically designed for wire rope terminations and, together with the appropriate Nicopress® compression tools and inspection gauges, form a precisely matched system.
Available Nicopress® Compression Sleeves from 0.26 to 10.0 mm
We supply Nicopress® sleeves for a wide range of wire rope diameters from 0.26 mm to 10.0 mm.
Depending on the version, the following sizes are available:
0.26 mm | 0.52 mm | 0.8–1.0 mm | 1.2–1.4 mm | 1.5–1.7 mm | 1.5–2.0 mm | 2.5 mm | 3.0 mm | 4.0 mm | 5.0 mm | 6.0 mm | 8.0 mm | 10.0 mm
This wide range allows both very fine wire ropes and larger stainless steel wire ropes to be professionally terminated using Nicopress® compression sleeves.
High Strength with the Original Nicopress® Compression System
When correctly selected and properly installed, Nicopress® Oval Sleeves can – depending on wire rope construction and diameter – provide a termination capable of achieving approximately 100% of the rated breaking strength of the wire rope.
Nicopress® has tested corresponding terminations with wire rope constructions including 1x19, 7x7, 7x19 and 6x19 IWRC in tensile tests.
A reliable termination always requires the correct combination of wire rope, Nicopress® sleeve and the specified compression groove, as well as correct installation.
For Stainless Steel Wire Rope and Different Rope Constructions
Depending on the sleeve type, wire rope diameter and application, Nicopress® compression sleeves can be used with different wire rope constructions, including:
- 1x19 stainless steel wire rope – rigid construction, suitable for standing rigging and architectural tensioning applications
- 7x7 stainless steel wire rope – flexible and suitable for a wide range of applications
- 7x19 stainless steel wire rope – highly flexible for applications requiring greater movement
Nicopress® Oval Sleeves can be used to create loops, eyes and terminations with thimbles. This allows wire rope ends to be connected to rigging screws, turnbuckles, shackles, snap hooks and other connecting components.
Applications for Nicopress® Oval Sleeves
The Nicopress® system has been used for decades in a wide variety of professional applications, including:
- Yacht, boat and marine applications
- Architecture and structural applications
- Wire rope trellis systems
- Balustrade and tensioning systems
- Industrial and OEM applications
- Event and stage technology
- Aviation and specialised technical applications
- Infrastructure and technical wire rope systems
Original Nicopress® Sleeves and Compression Tools Belong Together
A key advantage of the Nicopress® system is the precise matching of compression sleeve and compression tool.
Nicopress® sleeves are marked to identify the required compression groove / tool groove. The corresponding letter – for example C, G, M, P or X – must match the marking of the compression groove being used.
For example, a Nicopress® sleeve specified for compression groove P must be compressed using a Nicopress® compression tool with the corresponding P groove.
How to Correctly Compress Nicopress® Sleeves
For correct installation, the user must pay particular attention to the following points:
- The actual wire rope diameter must be suitable for the selected Nicopress® sleeve.
- The sleeve and compression groove must be correctly matched.
- The sleeve marking must correspond to the compression groove being used.
- The specified number and position of compressions must be observed.
- The sleeve must be compressed completely and evenly.
- After compression, the finished termination must be checked using the appropriate Nicopress® inspection gauge / GO Gauge.
Suitable manual Nicopress® compression tools are available for smaller and medium wire rope diameters. Larger wire rope diameters can – where specified for the respective sleeve – be processed using suitable hydraulic Nicopress® compression tools.
Nicopress® Inspection Gauge – Checking the Finished Compression
Inspection with the appropriate Nicopress® gauge is an important part of correct installation.
The GO Gauge is used to check whether the sleeve has been sufficiently compressed. The appropriate gauge must fit over the finished compressed sleeve in accordance with the manufacturer's specifications.
This enables the installer to verify immediately after compression that the required compression has been achieved.
Nicopress® – The Original Made in USA
Nicopress® has more than 100 years of experience in the development and manufacture of wire rope compression fittings and compression tools.
The coordinated system of Nicopress® compression sleeves, compression tools, compression grooves and inspection gauges provides a professional solution for producing consistent and reproducible wire rope terminations.
Hamburger Tauwerk supplies Original Nicopress® sleeves for wire ropes from 0.26 to 10.0 mm, together with the appropriate compression tools and inspection gauges.
Which Nicopress® Tool Do I Need?
For correct installation, the Nicopress® sleeve, wire rope diameter and compression groove of the tool must be precisely matched.

Important: The required number of compressions depends on the Nicopress® compression tool being used. Always follow the operating and installation instructions supplied with the respective tool.
After compression, the finished termination must be checked using the appropriate Nicopress® GO Gauge.
The sleeve marking indicates the required compression groove. For example, the Nicopress® sleeve NP-28-4-P for 4.0 mm wire rope must be compressed using groove P.
